Biography

Born in Basel in 1958 and trained in piano and trumpet by Chester Gill, Philippe Chrétien found his preferred expressive voice in the tenor saxophone in 1979.

International concerts with acclaimed musicians and DJs across diverse styles helped form a highly personal musical language. His work moves naturally between jazz, lounge, downtempo and contemporary production.

As a solo artist, Chrétien is also a composer, producer and DJ. Elegantly understated, his gala performances create a relaxed and sensual atmosphere. His soulful tone and musical empathy remain instantly recognisable.

With bassist and composer Markus Fritzsche, Philippe moves closer to an ideal of reduction and transparency. Fritzsche, a self-taught musician and award-winning film composer, has performed with Swiss and international artists and on the Montreux Jazz Festival main stage.
